Hi, I’m Sally Mathrick. Over the past 25 years, I’ve had lots of experience with fasting, personally and professionally. I’ve likely made every mistake in the book! I’ve also learned how a well-supported fasting process elicits remarkable outcomes. During my 8 years writing the Wellbeing Australia Magagine DIY Detox column, I explored and experienced many different ways of applying fasting for cleansing, and continued my use of fasting running retreats as well as personal nature-sitting fasting processes.

FAQs
Gentle exercise, regular movement and activity are all recommended while you go through your fast, and so is resting and laying down! When exercising, don’t push yourself to exercise excessively as when fasting your muscles won’t have the same supply of energy. Building muscle before and after fasting periods is highly recommended.
If you’re taking prescription medications, speak to your health professional to get individual guidance as to whether fasting is suitable for you at the moment. Never stop taking any prescribed medications with guidance from your doctor. Some supplements can be supportive during 5-day Change Fast. Please refer to the Supplements resource in the Change Fast course materials (and get some nice discounts too).
If you have a bad response to fasting – headache, nausea, skin rash, constipation, etc – refer to the Adverse Reactions Resources in the Change Fast course content, post a comment in that Day’s lesson, and/or reach out to the What’s App group for support. If you break the fast (as instructed) the reactions will abate pretty quickly too.
You can definitely socialise when fasting! Simply pack yourself your snack and own drinks to take along. Socialising is about the people you’re with, not what you imbibe.
And no, you can’t have a glass of wine or beer while you’re fasting.
If you decided to finish your fast earlier, that’s okay. What’s important is following the instructions on how to finish your fast properly. We encourage you to follow your own needs, and reach out for support when you’re struggling. If you finish early, congratulate yourself on building your ‘fasting fitness’. You are increasing your capacity to adapt to fasting conditions. You can revisit fasting again in a few months and be better prepared.
That’s up to you. Everyone experiences fasting differently. Some programs suggest for you to work throughout the entire 5-day fasting period, so it’s doable. Working can be good to distract you from food and keep you out of the kitchen! In Change Fast we encourage you to carve out time and space to rest, and enable deeper rejuvenation. Particularly during days 3 and 4 when your metabolism is shifting which can make your energy levels fluctuate. It’s also supportive for your body and mind to have some space for reflection and relaxation during this time. This is why we start the fast on Thursdays, so you have the weekend to more deeply relax.
You can allocate which ever 5 consecutive days work best for you. It can be supportive to be moving through your fasting at the same time as the whole group. But you can do your own time and will have access to the platform content for 15 days (from start date of your program). The recipes and other downloads you have forever : )
